Our Toddler House Community is located in a cozy, home-like setting that is designed to nurture the spirit and support the rapidly developing minds and bodies of very young children.
The Toddler House is typically composed of 12 children ages 18 months to 3 year olds. Two teachers are their guides; they create a safe and nurturing environment that both comforts and stimulates children as they learn and grow. Children often stay for two years in the toddler room, giving their relationships with friends and adults time to develop before beginning in the 3-6 Program of The Children’s House.
Teachers are specialists in working the great joys and challenges of the toddler age group. Teachers partner closely with parents and help guide in the establishment of autonomy, separation, toilet learning, and other issues that rise during this important time of life. The educational program includes practical life skills, experiences in arts and sciences and activities for sensori-motor and language development. Children have opportunities to gather in larger groups for songs and games and a healthy snack. (The teachers make waffles and offer vegetables and fruit daily.) The children also are given plenty of time to freely choose the age-appropriate works available on the shelves of the classroom and enjoy outside time in our toddler garden.
The Toddler House Program is scheduled Monday-Friday from 8:15-11:30. The number of days a child may attend is flexible; parents may choose from 3 or 5 days.
